More than 175 years ago, a young French Catholic priest named Father Basil Anthony Mary Moreau had a dream of serving those who were in need of education and health care. From this dream, the Holy Cross Family of Priests, Brothers, and Sisters was born to serve the people of God throughout the world. As part of this religious family, the Sisters became the Marianites of the Holy Cross in 1841.
Their mission of being sent to serve in various parts of the world brought them to Opelousas, Louisiana. When the Marianites of the Holy Cross stepped off a boat in Washington, Louisiana more than 150 years ago and began to respond to educational needs, Fr. Moreau’s vision became a reality in this part of Louisiana.
In 1965, Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home grew out of this dream and mission of responding to ongoing needs offering long-term care and short-term rehabilitation services in a spiritual and loving environment. C’est la Vie Independent Living Center for seniors opened its doors in 1986.
